How to Start Your Healing Journey as a Woman

If you've found yourself Googling "how to start my healing journey" at 11pm, lying in bed with a restless mind and a quiet knowing that something needs to change - I want you to know that I've been there. And I want to tell you something that took me years to understand: you don't need to have it all figured out to begin.

You just need a starting point.

My own healing journey began over fifteen years ago, not in a therapy room or a yoga retreat, but with a book. The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. I stumbled across it during one of the hardest periods of my life - a marriage breakdown, a confidence that had been quietly eroded, and a deep sense of not knowing who I was anymore. The Secret introduced me to the law of attraction, to the idea that what we focus on expands, and to the possibility that my internal world had more power over my reality than I had ever been taught.

It wasn't an overnight transformation. But it was a beginning. And sometimes, a beginning is everything.

1. Start with something that opens your mind

For me it was The Secret. For you it might be a different book, a podcast, a conversation that catches you off guard. The starting point of a healing journey isn't a programme or a plan - it's a moment of curiosity. A willingness to consider that there might be more to your life than what you can currently see.

If you don't know where to start, start there. Pick up a book about mindset, spirituality, or personal growth and see what lands. The right words have a way of finding you at exactly the right time.

2. Give yourself five minutes of stillness every day

I know. Five minutes sounds almost laughably small. But one of the biggest misconceptions about healing is that it requires hours of your time, expensive retreats, or a complete life overhaul. It doesn't. It starts in the quiet moments.

A five-minute meditation in the morning - before you check your phone, before the noise of the day begins - can genuinely shift something. Not because five minutes is magic, but because you're sending yourself a message: I matter enough to show up for myself today.

If you're not sure where to start with meditation, guided sessions are a brilliant entry point. Something that simply asks you to breathe, to feel your body, to arrive. Over time, those five minutes might become ten. Then twenty. And what starts as a small habit becomes an anchor.

3. Write it down

Journalling is one of the most underrated healing tools available to us - and it costs nothing but a notebook and a few honest minutes. There is something about putting words on a page that helps us process what we're carrying. It externalises the internal. It creates a little distance between you and your thoughts, and in that distance, something shifts.

You don't need prompts (though they help). You don't need perfect grammar or beautiful handwriting. You just need to start writing and see what comes out. Some of my most important personal breakthroughs have come not from a conversation with someone else, but from a quiet morning with a journal and a cup of chai.

If you want somewhere to start, try this: write down three things you're grateful for every morning and one thing you want to feel more of in your life. That's it. Simple, but powerful.

4. Find your people

Healing in isolation is hard. Not impossible, but hard. We are wired for connection, and there is something profoundly healing about sitting in a room - or on a Zoom call - with other women who are on the same path. Women who won't judge you for crying or for not having it together. Women who get it because they're in it too.

This is exactly why Unleash the Wolf Within is what it is today. Because when I started my own healing journey, I looked around and couldn't find a space that felt like home.

UWW is a community of women across the UK who are healing, growing, connecting and figuring it out together. We run healing circles, meditation sessions, women's events and online spaces where you can show up exactly as you are. No performance required.

You don't need to have it all figured out

The most important thing I want you to take from this is that there is no perfect way to begin a healing journey. There is no right book, right method, or right moment. There is only the moment you decide that you are worth showing up for.

That moment can be right now.

If you're looking for a community to walk alongside you, we'd love to welcome you into UWW. Come to an event, join a healing circle, or simply explore what's here. You don't have to do this alone.
