Blending Reiki and Essential Oils for Everyday Healing

When you listen to Binju speak, one thing becomes clear - healing isn’t just her passion, it’s her way of life.

Her story began in her early twenties when she discovered Reiki during a period of self-doubt and sensitivity. The practice became her anchor, helping her through marriage, relocation to a new country, raising children and even skin conditions that baffled doctors. While steroids were prescribed, it was Reiki that gave her real results - within three months, her skin healed.

Reiki as a Lifeline

For Binju, Reiki has never been something to “pick up and put down.” It’s been her daily practice and her family’s quiet healer. Her son and daughter grew up receiving Reiki whenever they needed it, from colds to stress. Even when her daughter went away to university, she reminded her: “Put your hands on yourself, the energy will know what to do.”

Reiki, she explains, is universal life force energy that anyone can tap into. It balances and relaxes the body, allowing natural healing to take place. And yes, even children can be attuned - often from the age of eight upwards.

The Power of Essential Oils

Alongside Reiki, essential oils became another game-changer. From Bach flower remedies to doTERRA oils, Binju has long trusted nature’s medicine cabinet. What began as blends for friends and family soon became a daily ritual. Whether managing anxiety, immunity, or heart health, her oils travel with her everywhere - even on holiday.

She smiles: “I can’t travel without them. They’re always with me.”

Daily Rituals

Her mornings begin with meditation, Reiki to all seven chakras and oils mixed into her water - supporting her heart, liver and immunity. For her, it’s not an optional extra but a non-negotiable part of self-care. It’s how Binju

Healing for the Next Generation

What lights her up most is the idea of passing these tools to children.

She believes kids today face overwhelming levels of stress, anxiety and disconnection - amplified by COVID, technology and constant media noise. Reiki and oils, she says, can help children centre themselves, understand their emotions and build confidence from within.

“Why wait for therapy years later,” she asks, “when children can learn tools for self-healing now?”

Life Lessons & Cultural Conditioning

Like many South Asian women, Binju has faced challenges - not only external judgments but also internal conditioning. Growing up, the expectation was a secure “white-collar” job, not holistic healing. Yet, as she points out, much of what she does today is rooted in her heritage - Ayurveda, pranayama, turmeric milk, breathwork.

What was once dismissed as “old remedies” is now celebrated in the West as wellness trends. She laughs: “We were forced to drink haldi doodh (milk mixed with turmeric) growing up. Now it’s called a turmeric latte, and my kids order it themselves.”

Fun Fact

Despite being shy and visibility-averse, Binju teaches speech and drama to children. “It’s ironic,” she admits. “But we often teach best what we most need to learn.” Through her students, she continues to grow, learn and find her own confidence.

Advice for Fellow Soulpreneurs

Her wisdom is simple but powerful:

  • Just start. Don’t wait for the “perfect” time - it doesn’t exist.

  • Take baby steps. Progress matters more than perfection.

  • Believe in yourself. Deal with imposter syndrome after you’ve begun, not before.

  • Quiet the noise. Whether external opinions or internal guilt, don’t let them hold you back.

As she says: “If not now, when? I don’t want to look back in 20 years and regret not trying.”
